Week of Action: May 13th-17th

National Women's Liberation, with the support of our allies Women Organized to Resist and Defend (WORD), is organizing a week of action. We are uniting to demand "Access for all, No restrictions!" Birth control is a cornerstone of women's freedom. If the Obama Administration thinks women will simply let this go, they are wrong!

Join us for actions in the cities listed below, or plan an action in your city! Please contact us if you would like to participate in a planning meeting. Organizing kits are available. If you hold a sign, drop a banner, or organize a flashmob to put the Morning-After Pill on the shelf, send us video or pictures. We will compile them. Please forward this message widely.

Feminist Brunch - Sunday, April 28, 2013 at 11am

Sunday, April 28, 11am to 1pm
1592 NE 75th St, Gainesville, Florida (View Map)

(View pdf of brunch flyer)

We are hosting a feminist brunch to celebrate the 50th anniversary of Betty Friedan’s groundbreaking book The Feminine Mystique. This event is open to women only. Please bring food to share.

We will be discussing how the movement that she helped spark has changed our lives, and the work the movement still needs to do by answering these questions:

1. What things in my life as a woman do I want to see changed? How has this changed as I’ve gotten older?
2. What is my role in women's liberation at this stage of my life? How has that changed as I've gotten older?

Celebration of Margaret Parrish's Life

One of Gainesville's most dedicated activists, Margaret Anne Parrish, died peacefully on March 6, 2013 at the age of 70. Gainesville has lost a true warrior. There will be a celebration of the life and times of Margaret Parrish on Saturday, March 30, 2013, from 1:30-4:00 p.m. at the Gainesville Women's Club, 2809 W. University Avenue in Gainesville, FL. Food and drinks will be provided but potluck is welcome. This is an all-inclusive community event. Anyone and everyone who wants to celebrate Marge's life is welcome and invited to attend.

She will be remembered as the personification of activism. While she was passionate about variety of issues; closest to her heart were women and children issues. Her courageous and extraordinary contributions earned accolades throughout the community. Her most significant accomplishments were as one of the three women who established the Gainesville Women's Health Center and as co-founder of the Birth Center of Gainesville. She was a friend, a confidant, a caregiver and an inspiration. Her presence in all she did and those whose lives she touched will be missed, but never forgotten.

For more information on the importance of the Gainesville Women's Health Center, please read
“Event to celebrate Gainesville Women's Health Center, ‘Health Care for People, Not for Profit’ was clinic's mission” by Jenny Brown.
