8.7.13 - Plan an Action with Us in NYC

Obama Administration: Still Not Good Enough on Morning-After Pill
Join us on Wed Aug. 7th
Feminist Consciousness Raising & Action Planning you angry that a package of Plan B One-Step emergency contraception at Duane Reade in NYC costs $54.99? That it is held hostage in a ridiculous, attention-grabbing, plastic box? That the Obama Administration is enforcing abitrary restrictions on generic morning-after pill products?

Are you angry that the same powerful men who attack our right to birth control, including abortion and contraception, proclaiming their so-called "family values," are also against paid family leave, public child care programs and national health insurance?

If the answer is YES, join us on August 7th. We will be analyzing our own experience to get at the root of our problems, how they are political, and planning an action to fight back.

Wed., August 7, 2013
220 Fifth Avenue (at 26th Street), 2nd floor
New York, NY (map)

Our meetings are for women only as we believe women must lead the fight for our freedom.

Celebrate International Women's Day with the Federation of Cuban Women and NYWL

On Tuesday, March 5, 2013, come celebrate International Women's Day with the Federation of Cuban Women.  In the U.S. we are still fighting for National Healthcare, Paid Family Leave and Universal Childcare; take this rare opportunity to hear from Cuban women what they have won through revolution and feminist struggle!
Tuesday, March 5, 2013
7:00- 9:00pm

220 Fifth Ave, 5th floor
btwn W 26th St and W 27th St (Take the N/R or 6 to 28th St stops)

NYWL past-chair advisor, Allison Guttu was able to meet with the Federation during a political tour of Cuba.  Guttu says, "Cuba has 45% women in Parliament, one of the highest in the world.  It was amazing to learn about the wins that women had achieved, as well as the challenges; for instance they have won family leave but are still fighting for men to take that leave.  I am so excited that the Federation is joining us again for International Women's Day."
The New York Chapter of National Women's Liberation is a feminist group for women who want to fight back against male supremacy and win more freedom for women.  We believe that change comes from a movement of everyday people.  Our meetings are open to all women.

3.26.13 - NWL Pharmacy Flashmob

Women to Obama: Put the Morning-After Pill on the Shelf or We Will

On Tuesday, March 26, 2013, the New York chapter of National Women’s Liberation led a flash-mob action with feminist allies where more than 20 women put the Morning-After Pill on the shelf in a pharmacy in New York City. The action began with New York steering committee member, Dior Vargas, leading the crowd in chants. Then National Women’s Liberation leader, Erin Mahoney, demanded that the Obama Administration and Health and Human Services eliminate the sexist restrictions to the Morning-After Pill, and put it over-the-counter. Women then put the pill on the shelf next to condoms, where it should be!

Help us plan an action to demand unrestricted access to the Morning-After pill for ALL women.  No age restrictions.  No requirement for id.

Winning complete control over our reproductive lives is key to winning women’s liberation. The ability to choose when and whether we have children impacts our individual autonomy, and power in our relationships, jobs and society at large.  Control over our reproductive lives includes access to all forms of safe birth control.  The Morning-After pill is an effective form of birth control that is inaccessible for teenage girls and women without identification.

October 12, 2011—National Women's Liberation proudly joins Occupy Wall Street in protesting the power and exploitation by the 1% over the rest of us.

We encourage all women and feminist organizations to lend their strength to the women and men of Occupy Wall Street around the country whose actions are moving our country again toward "liberty and justice for all."
