The Republicans in Congress and the incoming administration quickly got to work trying to undo the Affordable Care Act. Though the repeal was defeated, the attack on public health care continues at the federal level and in many states. Meanwhile, the New York State Senate is considering a health care bill that would cover all residents, regardless of income, marital status, employment, or citizenship status. If passed, no one who needed care would go without it.

At this month’s Women of Color Caucus meeting, we will use consciousness-raising to explore our own experiences with health care by answering the following questions:

1.    What have you and/or your family gotten from the current health care system that you needed?

2.    What have you needed that you haven’t gotten from the current health care system?

3.    What do you want your health care to be like? Why?
