SUMMARY:Students of Women's Liberation Movement History and Theory Wanted
DESCRIPTION:Over the next few months\, National Women’s Liberation will be working with Redstockings members and volunteers to revise and expand the organizer’s class: “Women’s Liberation: Where Do I Fit In?” This class was developed by Gainesville (FL) Women’s Liberation and Redstockings using literature from the Redstockings Women’s Liberation Archives for Action.\n\n\nRedstockings\, with NWL assistance\, will teach the class this coming September in NYC\, and this preparatory study and revision will strengthen the theory and lessons of the class.  The class is part of our work to build a grassroots movement of women to bring new fire to the fight for our liberation.\n\n\nJoin Us!\nOur final study and curriculum planning meeting will be Tuesday\, September 9 from 7 – 9pm. In Florida\, the meeting will be held at 1229 NW 12th Ave.\, Gainesville\, FL. DESCRIPTION:Building Women’s Liberation Now: Gems from the 1960s & \nBeyond for Radical Feminist Theory & Action Today \nA joint project of Redstockings and National Women’s Liberation \n\n10 weekly sessions: Thursdays\, September 18th-November 20th\, 7-9pm \nFee: $45 (no one turned away for lack of funds) \nSign up: Registration is now closed. No walk-in registrations will be accepted on site. \n\n\nThis class is for women who want to understand basic truths and political causes of the unfairness in our daily lives; how a feminist movement was organized to change this; what we can do now to build the kind of movement that can put the male chauvinist establishment on the run again; and how each woman can contribute to that effort. \n\nYou will learn about the heroic struggle women have waged\, individually and collectively\, for our survival and our freedom. What lessons and strategies from women’s fighting history can we apply today? Through a combination of lecture\, discussion of readings*\, and consciousness-raising\, participants will learn about the radical ideas and methods that sparked the rebirth of the feminist movement in the 1960s. \n\nThis class is not about personal liberation through improved self-esteem or an alternative women’s culture\, recalling a golden age of matriarchy\, or how feminism can save the planet. Nor is it about achieving status in the present corrupt system through individual self-improvement or lifestyle changes. \n\nThe following will be covered:  \n• Reproductive Oppression and Reproductive Justice \n• The origins of the feminist movement and the how these truths have been buried \n• Consciousness-raising: getting to the root of sexism. Who benefits? Who pays? \n• Radical feminist theory: what is radical? What is radical feminism?
